April 19, 2005: the Church and the entire world greeted the new successor of St. Peter, Benedict XVI.
February 28, 2013: 17 days after the historic announcement of the renunciation of Petrine ministry, Pope Benedict XVI leaves the seat of the Apostolic Palace.
In honour of the great legacy left by Pope John Paul II, the new Bishop of Rome immediately opened his Pontificate with a request for his predecessor's beatification. Following this, Benedict XVI marked his Pontificate with trips to Spain to reaffirm the importance of the family, to Germany for the occasion of the World Youth Day, to Turkey to reinforce dialogue with Islam, and to many other countries. This documentary follows the Pontificate of Benedict XVI step by step, showing how all these events, journeys and other deeds are made with humbleness and simplicity, in order to witness to the mercy of God, and shows the very last moments of the Pontificate and the historic renunciation of Petrine ministry.
